One one coco full basket (Jamaican Proverb)

Do you ever sit down and wonder about life, and why it can at times be so hard?  Adulthood is something we are all in a hurry to get to but have a number of second thoughts once we actually get there and realize the seriousness of responsibility, and what it actually takes to maintain ‘life’. Long gone are the days of freedom in replacement of a long list of mental challenges and social pressures.

“One one coco full basket” is a jamaican proverb which means ‘every little bit adds up to a WHOLE lot.  I’ve chosen to use this phrases in relation to life. According to Feng Shui on the whole there are 9 main areas of life. For a large amount of us some areas are often overlooked or neglected in place of other areas. However this can lead to a variety of unconscious issues that are not always obvious to the eye. So every so often it’s helpful to conduct a reality check.

Wealth (Self Esteem)

Abundance, wealth and prosperity is dependent on self worth and the ability to have the confidence to fulfill your dreams. In other words doing what you think you can do as opposed to what your heart desires are two totally different things. Neglecting to acknowledge or focus on our dreams can sometimes leave a lifetime void and feeling of unhappiness. So ask yourself these questions am I living my dream life? if not why? Does this affect other areas of my life? do I make this affect others around me?

 Reputation, fame (Social life)

Social reputation is dependent on individual personality, characteristics, interpersonal skills and our connection with our surroundings and others. Ask yourself these questions am I happy with my social life? if not why? does this affect other areas of my life? do I make this affect others around me?

Love and relationships (Emotions)

Although there are different forms of love, sexual intimate relationships are often considered the most meaningful component of life. A happy relationship is dependent on our ability to deal with emotions of the past and present. Ask yourself these questions am I happy with my love life? am I good at being open and honest with my thoughts and feelings? am I carrying past hurt? do I fear the possibility of being hurt again? does this affect other areas of my life? do I make this affect others around me?

Family and Community (Self Respect)

Our families and community are the foundations of which we build our physical and emotional stability. Ask yourself these questions do I come from a stable family or community background? does this affect other areas of my life? do I make this affect others around me?

Health (Well Being)

Our physical, mental and emotional well being is dependant on the balancing of mind body & soul and our personal connection with our higher self. Ask yourself these questions do I have good physical, mental and emotional health? if not why? does this affect other areas of my life? do I make this affect others around me?

Children and fun (creativity)

Children are of course created through intimate relationships, however this area of life  also applies to our own creativity and imagination. Creativity is responsible for ideas.  Ask yourself these questions am I creative? do I come up with good ideas? if not why? does this affect other areas of my life? do I make this affect others around me?

Wisdom (self awareness)

Wisdom is derived from experience, knowledge and good judgment. Ask yourself these questions do I learn from experience? do I seek knowledge of myself and the world around me? if not why? does this affect other areas of my life? do I make this affect others around me?

Career (life purpose)

A career is not just a job, it’s the journey we choose to take in life and learn along the way. For example providing entertainment to people, saving people’s lives, transporting people around, advising people, building structures for people to use or taking part in supporting people in the local community. Ask yourself these questions, what is my life purpose? what interests me in life? do I make this affect others around me?

Helpful people & Travel (Spirituality)

Helpful people guide and advise us, and provide opportunity for support, awareness and growth. We also learn from travelling to different environments. Ask yourself these questions, do I have helpful people in my life? have I explored life elsewhere? if not why? does this affect other areas of my life? do I make this affect others around me?

We often separate aspects of life instead of looking at our lives as a whole. Yet logically if we neglect one aspect of anything it often affects other areas. The effects can range from unconscious behavior to the feeling of void or isolation from the world.

The key to a successful happy life relies on our ability to balance all areas simultaneously. Simple because all areas are linked together.  Keywords are;

  • Thinking
  • Knowing
  • Understanding
  • Communication
  • Love
  • Self esteem
  • Self awareness
  • Self motivation
  • Confidence

“One one coco full basket”.  So if you are lacking in any of these areas, then it’s time to get to work in making changes.  You are the creator of your life. Your life is what you make it!
